When liquid Nitrogen & Ice-Cream collides
I love Camden
The mass of people, countless dslrs, cute and quirky market stalls and oh my the street food!!! Don’t you just walk around tasting everything, well i do
Bang Bang Chicken? Yes please
Tacos? Mmm i’ll have that
Dim Sum? just a little piece
I could go on forever.
After having the greasiest and yummiest chinese, we all wanted something refreshing to kind of call it a day. So i suggested we hit up Chin Chin Labs – a nitro ice-cream parlour, i’ve been meaning to try for a while. So this was the perfect opportunity.
What’s nitro ice cream? Well, instead of your typical pre-frozen ice-cream, the fresh ingredients are made on the spot and then mixed with liquid nitrogen. The end result is one creamy and smooth delight.
Total party in your mouth
It’s pretty much like a mad scientists lair inside here.
Randomly found myself singing the Dexters Laboratory theme song as i was writing this
“Dee-dee get out of my Laboratory” 🙂
Okay back to the serious stuff
Following the laboratory theme, are shelves brimming with beakers, flasks, test tubes.. the whole lot
Its pretty simple, choose your ice-cream base and then your toppings
The flavours change on a weekly basis, often with a seasonal theme: from baked plum, waffles and beer, nutella and crunchy bread, barbecued pineapple sorbet, caramel apple and crispy sage, scones and cream tea, watermelon and dill to bloody mary. Just to name a few
Never disappointing each ice-cream comes in perfectly sized portions with delicious toppings and sauces to choose from.
Valrhona chocolate, Fleur de sel caramel and Raspberry – Urbies
Some of the toppings are even packaged and sold
Now this is how the magic happens, these bad boys right here – liquid nitrogen
The ice cream is made on the spot, first by pouring the ice cream custard mixture into mixers then adding liquid nitrogen, before whipping it all up into thick creamy ice cream.
I got the pondicherry vanilla and grilled chocolate.
The grilled chocolate was like oreo cookie crumbs.. Yum.
It was so dense and creamy, i loved it and i’m not an ice-cream fan
There you have it 🙂
£3.95 a scoop, Chin Chin Labs is well worth the visit. For its delicious ice-cream, theatrics and experience of it all
Now i’m off to watch some Dexters Laboratory reruns
